What Does it Mean to Be Humble

To be humble, to have humility, to have a humbling experience.  It sounds easy and we all say we strive to be this. Biblically we are called to be humble. So why is it so hard for us to admit that we should have this state of mind, let alone try and display this in our daily lives.  

I was reminded of this during the week when a client came up to me and said he was going out for wrestling and asked what he needed to do to be good.  I said humility. We have a saying in this sport that “if you don’t have humility be ready to be humbled”, and this can true for everyday life’s experiences.  Maybe that is why wrestlers can handle so much adversity.  

I guess the question we need to ask ourselves is what do I need to do to be humble, before I am humiliated?  Like I mentioned earlier wrestlers learn from a good butt whipping on the mat, we take that as “what not to do next time experience” and apply ...

Seven Areas of Self-Care

As the New Year rolls around, many of us are reflecting on the past year and considering what we want to focus on during this next trip around the sun.  As I’ve spoken with clients and thought about my own goals, the topic of holistic, well-rounded self-care has come up regularly.  Self-care is paying attention to and making good choices for your mind, body, soul, and spirit.  Without being aware of this, we risk falling into complacency, remaining stuck in unhealthy patterns, and hindering our ability to live the kind of story we want to experience.

What’s Running Your Show?

Situations arise that we feel we don’t have control over.  Sometimes it is positive, but most of the time it is the negative experiences that gets us flustered and responding poorly.   It is these experiences that are the building blocks of our lives that we filter today’s issues through.  Our interactions with others, our body images, our thoughts, our feelings our ______________, you fill in the blank.  Everything goes through our past whether we like it or not.   The question is how do we change these perceptions and judgments for a more positive understanding?
