Our stories provide insight into who we are, as well as the journeys that we have encountered along the way. I often view our journeys through life almost like when you are beginning a hike on a new and unfamiliar trail. There may be unknowns and challenges encountered on the path. Some areas may seem familiar and easy, and others more difficult or even scary. Regardless of what part of the path you find yourself on, it can be helpful to invite someone alongside you for the journey. I am passionate about listening to the story of your adventure in life so far, as well as beginning to help you brainstorm ways to map out where you hope to go next.
When I am not working with clients, I enjoy hiking and spending time outdoors, practicing yoga, visiting the many breweries in the area and spending hours reading a good book with a cup of coffee. I am also passionate about traveling and learning about different cultures, and I will jump at any opportunity to expand my horizons.
My Approach
I primarily work from a person-centered and holistic approach, as I believe that every person (or couple) is an expert of their own story, and those stories are unique to them. Life can be beautiful and uplifting, however life can also be messy and chaotic. As a counselor, I am here to walk alongside you as you embrace and navigate your story, and will help by providing tools and encouragement as we work together along the way. My aim is to provide each client a safe space to fully open up and dive into the deepest parts of their story, and to be a supportive presence in helping clients work towards growth and self-discovery. Every client's story and needs are unique to them, therefore I will also utilize additional counseling frameworks and interventions, including mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and (primarily when working with couples), emotionally focused therapy. Additionally, I am a certified Prepare-Enrich facilitator, and, upon request, am able to work with couples hoping to utilize that tool in order to develop a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship.
What you can expect
When you first enter into a new counseling relationship, there can be a lot of mixed feelings that are presenting themselves. Therefore, to help make the process more comfortable, it is important that I provide a space that is warm, encouraging and safe. We will work together to embrace the many parts of your journey that have brought you to where you are today, as well as explore ways that will help you to feel empowered and valued in who you are. I will walk alongside you as you work towards developing the tools for finding healing and growth as you continue on in your journey.
