Hi, I'm Coleen, a counseling intern at Second Story. I have a background in business but was drawn to counseling because of its relational nature. I love that counseling provides the opportunity to intentionally listen, create a safe space, and walk alongside others as they express their experiences and unfold their story. I am currently finishing up my master's in clinical mental health counseling and feel so thankful and humbled for the opportunity to start this journey with such a kind and experienced team.
Outside of counseling and finishing up school, I love drawing, reading, coffee dates, and walks with my dog. I also enjoy golf, pickleball, snowboarding, and wake surfing. I am currently on a sourdough kick and have been baking a lot-my favorite are the sourdough bagels I make.
My Approach
I seek to create a space that is encouraging but also where clients are challenged to grow. I hope it is a space that can be fun but also one where it is safe to be vulnerable (which is sometimes the scariest part). I believe that counseling is a collaborative effort that is uniquely tailored to and for each client. I also deeply value the therapeutic alliance and the rapport built during this process. Thus, my approach to counseling is one that is client-centered rooted in evidence-based practices such as CBT and mindfulness that seek to meet the unique needs and goals for each person.
What You Can Expect
In our journey together, you can expect a encouraging and collaborative space where your goals and current needs help to mold the therapeutic process. Sessions may vary depending on your preferences and what is deemed most cohesive for you. For some this process may look much more structured and for others not as much. We will work together to figure out how the therapeutic process suits you best. I will check-in regularly with you to assess how things are going and if changes may need to be made. Feedback is also greatly appreciated and always encouraged.
